Beauty is clearly in the eye of the beholder

I think I am totally bizarre. I always point out people that I think are beautiful, I think mostly because I'm pretty self-conscious. I've been told not once, but twice, that I have a misconstrued sense of beauty. I really enjoy uniqueness. I have totally weird far apart eyes and I really like them. That's just one thing though. I really think that there's this need for either the totally bizarre (check out Allison on this cycle of America's Next Top Model) or the plain Janes who have been running this planet for the past 40 years with their stick straight blonde hair, beach bodies, and stick-thin extremities. When will people realize that cross-culturally, our ideas of beauty are totally fucked (for lack of better word)?

My sister's boyfriend is from Nigeria and he's mentioned the difference of having a thicker woman being a sign of health and nourishment. In America, that doesn't fly. Clearly, SlimQuick and Nutrisystem won't let that happen. Why can't heavier people be considered beautiful, not tagged as "plus-sized?" Why can't a girl have total bug eyes and be considered courageous, not outrageous? We assume that total weird-looking women are suited for either high-fashion or the circus, there's no in-between. Its so frustrating.
